It’s true there are plenty of RSS applications, plug-ins and online readers for people who want to keep using RSS, so in some people’s eyes the move away from integrated RSS isn’t be a big deal. But they’re missing the point. There’s nothing wrong with RSS and there’s no good reason to phase it out. The really point is that the major players who want to dominate the web are deliberately undermining one of its most important open standards. They want to kill off universal RSS so they can replace it with their own proprietary services and then act as our gatekeepers to the world. If you don’t want social media giants to own the web, you should be concerned about the fate of RSS whether you use it or not.
